|
Solubility is a physical property, but it is important to keep in mind that a substance's solubility can vary. A substance's solubility can change by altering the temperature, pressure, or solvent in which the substance is placed. The solubility of a substance is usually described relative to the solvent.
Because salt dissolves in water, we say that salt is soluble in water or water-soluble. However, salt is not soluble in other solvents. For example, salt will not dissolve in acetone. In this case, we say that salt is insoluble in acetone.
